Silent Message sending Module

Bare React Native Version:

npx react-native run-android

Ensure your Android device is connected via USB with debugging enabled.

Permissions

The app requests the following permissions at runtime:

• SEND_SMS — Required to send messages
• RECEIVE_SMS — Required by the SMS library
• READ_SMS — Required by the SMS library
• READ_PHONE_STATE — Device state checks
• READ_CONTACTS — Contact access (Expo version)

Users will see a permission dialog on first SMS send attempt.

How It Works

1. User enters a recipient's phone number (numeric input only)
2. User enters the SMS message body
3. User taps "Send SMS" button
4. App validates inputs and requests SEND_SMS permission if not already granted
5. Upon permission grant, SendDirectSms sends the message silently
6. Toast notification confirms success or displays error message
7. Input fields clear after send attempt

Troubleshooting

"SMS permission denied"
→ Go to device Settings → Apps → App Name → Permissions → Enable SMS

App crashes on launch
→ Run npx expo start --clear or npx react-native log-android to view logs

SMS not sending on emulator
→ Use a physical Android device. Emulators lack real SIM cards

Build fails with Gradle error (bare RN)
→ Run cd android && ./gradlew clean then retry npx react-native run-android

Module not found errors
→ Delete node_modules and package-lock.json, then run npm install again
